The crew was respectful of our home, kept the work area clean, and stayed on schedule throughout the remodel—even with changes to the original scope of work, which are to be expected during any remodel.

Barlow Construction provided an exceptional upgrade to our temporary rotomill covering from our shop construction in 2021. We ran out of funds and concrete costs had soured during Covid so we had to put in a temporary rotomill cover. Barlow Construction looked at our entire need, including tear out of our existing driveway and RV pad and rotomill base in front of shop. Tear out conducted in a timely professional manner. Then conducted 'final grade' preparation and reworked drainage plan to accommodate simplified and more functional drainage capability then the one we envisioned. Due to excessive rains we discovered a very large clay deposit in the middle of our pour area in front of shop. After Barlow Construction called soil engineers and the city of Layton for options, the recommendation was to remove the clay and replace with reused concrete. This was an exceptional recommendation. Another contractor could have just poured over it and we wouldn't have known until it cracked and heaved. While it was a change order and had additional cost, the professionalism of 'we do things right' was proven time and again during the project. The outcome has blown away all of our friends. The improvement to our yard, RV pad and driveway is spectacular. More importantly, heavy rains after the pour proved that the drainage system works perfectly. Can't recommend Barlow Construction enough and we know friends who are already lining up projects with them due to their customer service and quality of work. Had issues with a basement dishwasher leaking and causing water damage. Barlow and his team did a great job getting rid of the mold damage and fixing it up right!

If I could rate 10 stars I would, contacted them for replacement of 2 doors in my house with a large addition added to it, installing a slider was going to be tricky, these guys made easy work of it, but most impressive to me, the attention to detail and expert guidance in the design, if this company was on one of those HGTV programs, the would really showcase their talent

I depended on Barlow Construction for extensive renovation of my home 2016 - 2019. Over the 3 years, Greg remodeled the main floor, and the basement laundry room and bathroom. My wife and I are very happy with the home remodeling work that Barlow Construction completed for us. We started with a kitchen remodel that evolved into further updates including solid wood flooring including stairs, door replacements, painting, additional storage in mud room and laundry areas, and new stair railings. Barlow was clear about costs before the project was started and as we added additional updates along the way. We appreciated that Barlow would provide honest feedback regarding design and product choices so that we would maximize the value of the remodeling work. With the demolition of the old flooring, there were some minor issues that needed some remediation. We really appreciated that Barlow discussed the situation with us so that the repairs could be made. These issues were not addressed during a previous remodel before we purchased our home that eventually led to issues with the previous flooring.

I have a speech impediment and so it took a long time for Barlow to spend time with us discussing plans. He spent over 4 hours with us and was as patient with my disabililiteis and so kind and thougtful. He definitely knows what he is doing and would recommend him to anyone.

The team did a great job with the craftsmanship and attention to detail to bring our project to life. Everything, from the cabinets to the flooring, was done with care, and it shows in the finished space. We needed a shower conversion in the worst way, and Barlow Construction did a wonderful job.. Even though the bathroom is an odd shape (what you get in a 110 year old house), he made it work and the result is amazing. The subcontractors were knowledgable and skillful, and everything was done in a timely manner.

(additional post 9/2024) I just want to add to my review from more than a year ago. If I could leave 10 stars, I would. With the work Barlow did on our home we got his One Year guarantee. There were a few minor things that I needed adjusted and followed up on. He is true to his word and honors his work and that of his subcontractors. Barlow continues to this day to be highly responsive, even when it is warranty work on a bathroom faucet. When you hire Barlow, you get the real deal. Thanks, Barlow!!

(initial post 2023) Barlow came highly recommended to us. We are so very glad we hired him to do our extensive remodel and addition. Barlow met regularly with us and gave us many helpful recommendations and suggestions that I find myself still appreciating as we have moved back into our home. We found him to be honest, fair, and forthright. One day, early in the remodel, I saw a note to his crew outlining the work they were to accomplish that day. At the top of the list it said, "Steady with Quality". This truly represents his philosophy and work ethic. His worksite was clean and orderly and his sub-contractors know he expects quality work. They did an excellent job remodeling our master bathroom. The team kept us appraised of all surprises and the remediation such as old rotten floor boards that they discovered. All the sub contractors did excellent work. They were considerate of our schedule and needs. They went above and beyond what we expected. We will recommend them to anyone in need of their services.

My husband and I are both retired. We had many ideas for a new dream kitchen, and we had several ideas how to turn our old kids bedrooms, into an awesome sewing and hobby room for us.
We contacted Barlow Construction to give us a bid on everything we had in mind. Barlow was not the lowest bid, but we immediately knew that the job would be done on time, and as close to perfect as anyone could get. Barlow was transparent with his bid, but he took it a step further, and allowed us to pick and choose areas that my husband and I thought we could do on our own, primarily to save money. His people were professional and kind, but the best part was when Barlow said one of his contractors would be at our home, they all showed up! Not only did we choose an awesome builder, I can honestly tell you, we also made a good friend.

After having two back surgeries and a Parkinson’s diagnosis, we needed a shower that was easier to get in and out of. Barlow Construction came in, demoed the existing tub and shower then built a shower that will be easier to use. The plumber, electrician and tile setter were all friendly and fast. Greg Barlow was good to let us know when everyone was coming and checked to see how the subs were during all the construction. The result is a beautiful, functional shower that will fit our needs in the future. We couldn’t be happier.

We purchased an older townhome that needed some TLC. However, after our due diligence inspection, we uncovered several problems. We worked with Barlow Construction to estimate the cost of fixing these issues so that we had accurate numbers to negotiate the final sales price.
We then engaged Barlow Construction to handle a complete repaint, install new floor coverings, demo a tiny shower making it usable, and address other necessary repairs and upgrades beyond the initial problems identified.

We are illiterate in this area and Barlow left no detail unexplained and had several key observations and suggestions that added to the overall value and aesthetic. There also were no surprises after-the-fact. If a change was needed, the details were discussed with us immediately to determine how to move forward. This is the first time we have remodeled anything with a professional contractor. We are very happy with our choice of who to hire! Greg Barlow was confident in the bidding process and easy to communicate with throughout the project. We had a challenging fireplace to redo and he had some very great ideas for the project. Jason did a fabulous job on all the tile work, both on the fireplace and in the kitchen. He even got great color out of some very interesting grout products! I might be a Type A perfectionist, so for me to be happy with the work completed is really saying something. When I got nervous about the backsplash, they were understanding and worked with me until I was comfortable with the project. I love the way the backsplash turned out and I get lots of compliments on it. It's definitely an eye catcher. Our entry doors have been backlogged due to the virus, but I trust they will be installed in a quality manner when they arrive. The remodel has turned out far better than I expected. They are confident, very experienced, responsive and professional. I would highly recommend them without reservation.

My wife, Esperanza, and I had been looking for a contractor for nearly two years. We were taking out a FnMA HomeStyle Renovation Loan, which can be a bit restrictive. There were a lot of shysters, people who didn’t want to take out the permits themselves, people anxious of the loan’s credit check, people who didn’t like the loan’s constant inspection-before-payment, you name it. The job was fairly extensive, and many contractors flat-out told us that they would rather take a new construction job than deal with the hassles of an older-home renovation.

Greg Barlow came to us as a recommendation from a friend. We were immediately impressed by his no-nonsense attitude and his frank approach to the job. Greg said that he was familiar with the type of loan, and that the restrictions did not concern him. He gave us an approximate timeline, but cautioned us that work on older houses like ours could easily double the time estimates. Based on his recommendation, we moved into a rental house and cleared our house of all furniture.

Greg’s team immediately got to work. He organized everything; securing the permits, coordinating the subcontractors so that the work went seamlessly, and dealing good-naturedly with the loan representatives. Over the course of the next 6 months, Greg would keep us apprised of the work at least once a week, and often would make time to meet with us to go over the details of the job. Greg was deferential of our aesthetic choices, but would offer up some suggestions, based on similar jobs he had done. When certain structural anomalies were discovered (and verified by the engineer and/or city inspector) during the course of demolition, Greg worked with us to fix those anomalies. He offered up some more economical aesthetic alternatives that would work within our budget, to offset the additional structural costs. In all he did, Greg was forthright, imaginative, and sensitive to our concerns and needs.

In total, Barlow Construction rewired and replumbed our entire house, established a new HVAC system, installed a tankless water-heating system, insulated our house, and completely remodeled our kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, game room and parts of our living room, sunroom and loft. We were extremely impressed by his crew’s efficiency, professionalism, courtesy and overall amicability.

We were not ever left in the dark or without out hearing from Greg and his crew several times a day. His crew showed up on time "if not early" each day of each project. We used Barlow to do two large projects in our home. They were about 4 years apart. The first was to redo a master bathroom, hang pendant lights in our kitchen, enlarge our cement patio, add a 4th bedroom to our loft, and put up new lighting in our bonus room. Barlow Construction built our 15' x 30' family room and half bath addition. He was friendly, on time and made sure that any sub problems were resolved to our satisfaction. It was a major undertaking and we are very happy that we had Barlow do the job.

We had had terrible problems with windows leaking in our home and had tried multiple contractors and solutions. Though many tried to fix it nothing worked. We called Greg Barlow who had come highly recommended. As we told him about the problem he seemed to know exactly what the problem was and how to fix it which he did. Perfectly. We have been through 3-4 major storms in the past two years since he completed the work and our home has stayed completely dry - no water problems at all. He completely fixed the problem and we're so grateful. I also appreciate that he is very timely and shows up or calls when he says he's going to. Thanks Greg!

Greg has done work for us off and on over the last several years --from basic indoor and outdoor repairs to a remodel and I couldn't be more pleased. He is professional, dependable, has good communication and is prompt in his responses. He is also very concerned with quality and that the customer is pleased and treated well. If things are not done to yours or his standard they will be done again. I have literally seen him go back over and remove and redo work that he wasn't happy with. If there is ever any concern it just needs to be mentioned and it will be taken care of. No job is too big or too small --all are done with the same care. He has even personally traveled out of state to finish up a remodel on a bathroom for my elderly parents. I have no hesitation recommending him to all of my friends. and will continue to call on him when the need arises.

I hired Barlow Construction to redo our driveway. This included moving our water main and also cutting down a very large Box Elder tree whose roots were under the driveway pushing it up. They did a great job with getting the tree and roots out, moving the pipes and pouring a new driveway, but unfortunately soon after they poured the driveway it started raining which left marks all over the driveway. Barlow insisted on completely redoing the whole driveway, at no charge to us, so that it would look nice. In the meantime, we decided to make some changes and make the driveway wider and put in a water drain around the house. Barlow was great working with all the changes we gave him, and everything he did was done well and looks fantastic. We are very pleased with the results. I highly recommend Barlow construction!
